Jury

Noted director Saeed Akhthar Mirza will be the chairman of the Jury. Saeed Akhtar Mirza, an FTII graduate made three documentaries for the television- Corpses, Slum Eviction and Urban Housing shortly after coming out of the Institute. He made his first feature film, Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan in 1976 with a non narrative structure. The film portrayed the alienation of the upper middle class urban youth. This film marked Mirza as an important filmmaker. His second film, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai (1980) dealt with the problems faced by the Christian community in secular India. Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! (1984) focused with wry humour and hidden rage on the little man's dilemma in the corrupt, exploitive environment of modern India. Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro (1989), his fourth feature film dealt with the problems of another minority community but here the community is the one which he also belongs to. The film is dedicated to his long time friend Safdar Hashmi. Naseem too deals with the problems of the Muslim community and the story is set during the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.

SWARALAYA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2006 and AWARDS

Swaralaya International Film festival 2006 will be held at Palakkkad from 22 to 26, July 2006.12 Malayalam Films, 3 Tamil Films, more than 10 Foriegn Films will be screened in 2 venues. Apu trilogy(Satyajith Ray), Football films Package and Kim Kim Duk( Korean Director) Retro will be thge main attractions. Video documentaries/short films will a major ingradient of the FEST.

There will be competitions in Video Documentary and Short Films. Films in any language by any Malayali will be eligible. Last date for entry : 5, July 2006. Entry Fee : Rs.500.00 Prize Money for Best Film : Rs.10000.00 and for Director of the film : Rs.5000.00 (In each category)

SIGNS 2006

SIGNS, the Festival of Documentaries and Short Films in Video for the JOHN ABRAHAM NATIONAL AWARDS organised by the South West Region of FFSI (in association with other supporting bodies), is intended to provide a platform for showcasing the best of digital/video productions made in the country during a particular period.
